storms

we had a very adventurous weekend. as i'm sure you are aware, the midwest was hit with several storms, including lincoln and my hometown.

before i begin this post, i feel it is necessary to tell you something about myself:

i. love. storms.

yes, i once considered to be a meteorologist/storm chaser.
yes, my husband questioned my career choice this weekend.
yes, i follow storm chasers on fbook/twitter.
yes, my family jokes that they have to monitor me during storms so i will not go on the roof for a better view.
yes, it's because crazies like me that the national weather service now has to change the storm message to sound more terrifying and scare people.

anyways, you get the picture. i love [severe] storms.

so you can imagine the excitement that i may have had saturday.

this is what lincoln looked like saturday afternoon:

the day storms of saturday were pretty uneventful. they were predicting up to baseball size hail so we took precautions and parked one of our cars in a parking garage downtown. it did hail for 15 seconds and was pea size. so we can't say we did it for nothing. :)

the fun began saturday evening around 11:45 when we went into a tornado warning. there was no tornado, only a spotted a funnel cloud just north of the airport. the sirens went off and we went into our bathroom [no, mom and dad, i did not stand at the window]. this was cody's first tornado warning so i felt that i needed to die down my adrenaline. he handled it so well. at one point he asked "are storms like this a drug for meteorologist?" i think that he is starting to understand...

weather experts made the comment there was no tornado because of fog in the morning and temps during the day not getting high enough. even though i have a crazy love for storms, i am so so  SO grateful this is all we received. i love storms, but i love lincoln, family, friends and safety more.

while lincoln had a tornado warning, my hometown had a lot of hail and rain.

this is what norfolk looked like saturday afternoon:

see the stop sign? see the car right next to it? yeah. a LOT of rain. this picture is about two blocks away from my parents house. thankfully, they did not have any flooding problems. however, that did not stop my dad from helping other clean the water out of their homes, his store and Christ Lutheran school.

so grateful for: God's provision, and a God, husband and family who understands and loves me for who i am

a green thumb

this weekend cody bought my first plant as an Easter gift!

this is a big deal for me. i've never owned a plant outside of flowers that have a lifespan of a week. the plant is an "aglaonema" and is known as a "plant of steel" or wants minimal attention. :) we decided to start easy and work my way up.

while we were in lowes, we dreamed of becoming gardeners someday. we dreamed of what we would have in our garden, the types of plants and flowers we would have in our lawn and inside our home. thankfully that is in the future and not now because even picking this "plant of steel" was a tad overwhelming.

so, any suggestions or tips out there for this newbie?
